"Local boy" went to Howe, Oneida, Linton (back in the day) and Union College (Cum Laude). Upon completion of his undergraduate degree from Union College, Dr. Backer attended New York University College of Dentistry. After graduation, Dr. Backer worked in the largest group practice in Albany for nine years before embarking on endeavors of his own and starting Scotia Glenville Dental Center in 1989.

The above-named doctors had a profound influence and helped shape this practice to achieve its motto, "All Aspects of Dentistry, All Ages, All in One Place." Recognized by NYS Dental Association for achieving more than 1,000 hours of continuing education.
Dr. Backer’s children Elliot, Rebecca and Diana are all dynamic adults now. Elliot was Chief Resident of Internal Medicine and is now a Fellow in Critical Care Pulmonary. Rebecca has a master’s degree in Sustainable Engineering, and Diana a graduate of Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Advertising. His daughter-in-law, Allison, is soon to be a radiologist.
When he has free time, Dr. Backer enjoys boating, fishing, watercolors, woodworking and his dog Redson.
